The Artist's encounter Empty The Artist's encounter

Post by Prince of the Pages Mon Dec 24, 2012 2:07 am

Demetrius was sitting under a tree, running his finger over his sketch book nervously. It was a habit fir the most part, but he liked the reassuring feeling he got out of it. A school. A school!!! That wasn't his style, hell he couldn't even speak to a person, and he was totally out of his element in any form of social contact. 'Everyone here is like me' he reminds himself as he watched a few people walk by. A girl looked at him and smiled, but he looked away quickly. 'Why did she smile?...was she trying to be nice?' He wondered to himself as he looked over. The girl and her friends were gone now, leaving him alone with his thoughts.

The Artist's encounter Empty Re: The Artist's encounter

(I was kinda hoping you would've told me that the topic had been started but I thought I'd go ahead and check anyway, turns out it was a good decision)

Jake walked around the school, it was around noon and he was insanely bored. School was boring and the teachers had caught onto the fact that he skipped classes regularly and decided to throw him into detention anytime he was missing. It was unfair, it wasn't his fault that he had wings and could fly anywhere he wanted. Being restricted was one thing that Jake hadn't experienced in a long time. He didn't like it. He brought his head up and saw that his legs had brought him to the courtyard, there weren't that many people around, good. People usually meant meaningless noise most of the time.

He noticed a group of girls giggling and walking out of the courtyard, his enhanced hearing causing him to eavesdrop on their conversation unintentionally, they were talking about a random boy they thought was cute. Jake looked around the courtyard more carefully and noticed the one who the girls were probably talking about, a fit-looking boy that had dark hair and a few spikes at the back, there was a sketch book in his hand and he looked slightly confused. The boy looked a little confused. He was new, Jake realized, the boy with the sketch book was someone that Jake hadn't seen before. He decided to walk over to the boy, "Hey there, I haven't seen you around before. Are you new here?" Jake asked, deciding to go for the friendly approach.

Post by Prince of the Pages Mon Dec 24, 2012 2:40 am

Demetrius bristled slightly, his eyes flickering to the boy that talking in his direction. He looked around qiuckly but slowly nodded once he was sure he was talking to him. The Artist seemed to get nervous now. Flashbacks of back home flickered breifly in his head, that's how his first group beatings had started. 'No, No, calm yourself. Your in a school for kids like you, plus you can fight back now.' His logical side soothed. But he still didn't trust the guy yet, the guy who looked...half dragon?!. Demetrius almost gawked but quickly filed this fact away in his head, he'd have to study this interesting moment closely in his dorm once he was done here.

Errrrrrm Blaze? Not sure if you've noticed but, the wings are kinda retracted in my back right now. Jake looks perfectly human.

(Eh, it's fine.)

Jake mentally raised an eyebrow, the boy was jumpy. Perhaps he'd been abused before, or he simply wasn't a people person and disliked interaction? Still, he'd responded to his question and now Jake felt obligated to continue talking. "So what's your name? I'm Jake." The auburn haired seventeen year old asked, curiosity laced in his voice. Something about the dark haired boy made Jake interested in finding out more about him, hopefully he wouldn't have any powers as ridiculous as Kieff did. Jake mentally grimaced at the memory, his wings took forever to heal after that battle. Maybe his power was related to the sketch book? That would certainly give him a reason to carry it around. Unless he just liked drawing, a perfectly reasonable thing as well. Jake liked to admire art, he couldn't draw anything himself, but he could admire it anyway.

"Demetrius" he said. His voice was soft, almost like it was an unused instrument, but it was also laced with a slight english accent from his time in London. He shifted slightly, trying to work up a bit of calm. But people still made him jumpy, and he still had to learn trust, why not start with Jake? He slowly held out his pale right hand, meaning for him to shake it.

Jake smiled at Demetrius, making sure that it didn't come off as condensing or mocking. He reached forward and shook Demetrius' hand, "So what do you think of the school so far?" Jake asked, mostly for the sake of keeping the conversation up seeing as Demetrius didn't seem all that talkative. It would probably fall on Jake to make this conversation last, the auburn haired teen realized with just a bit of annoyance that he carefully kept off his face.

"It's...better than back home" He replied sitting back against his tree, running his finger over the violin on the sheet of paper by his side. He glanced around again, suddenly marking a few people with his eyes. He looked at Jake again. 'Nothing worth drawing. Shame really.' He thought. "How is it for you? I'm assuming you've been around longer than I"

Jake moved backwards slightly before he sat on the grass, he had moved backwards to make space for his legs to stretch, and to make sure he didn't get into Demetrius' private space. As he sat down he noticed the violin drawn on Demetrius' sketch book, it was a fine piece of art. "I've been here for a couple of years, this place is rather nice, but it gets boring after a while. At least you can make friends here." Jake answered honestly, it did get boring, very boring. It was the reason he usually flew out of school during the classes.

"People" he paused thinking of his words carefully. "Aren't my thing." He said after a second of thought. He curled his legs to his chest, his sleeve sliding back, showing three scars on his left arm, with the edges of his tattoo peeking out slightly. "Ive had...bad things happen to me in the past." He said diciding to disclose that much about himself. The Artist let his finger stop over the sketch. He consider reaching into the book to show off his power but changed his mind.

Jake's eyes looked at the exposed arm, the three scars looked rather bad, not the worst he'd seen but still rather bad. They didn't look fresh either, probably a few months to even years old. Looks like his first guess was right, the dark hair boy had been abused after all. Jake shook his head, "Don't worry about it, whatever happened to you in your old home is in the past. We're all the same here, we all have powers I mean. No one's going to hold anything against you, unless you piss them off of course, but that's only natural. You could try to make friends with other students slowly, I overheard a group of girls gossiping about you just now, things might not be as hopeless as you think." Jake said with a smirk on his face, trying to tease the artist. He didn't normally do this, talking to the insecure was more of Togi's thing, but Demetrius had decided to open up to him, however slightly. Jake felt obligated to help him with his issues.

He cockked his head to the side. "What do you mean?" He asked. Girls gossiping about him was new ofcourse. He looked at the back of his arm, sliding the sleeve back to his wrist. This was going to ba an interesting day for him at any rate. Maybe Jake could be his wingman while he worked out his social problems "I just got here, what could they be talking about?"

Jake's smirk turned into a full blown grin, the kid had no idea what he was getting into. "Oh you know, regular girl stuff, cute guys, people they want to date. There are quite a few interested in you judging from the giggles." Jake answered, wanting to see what Demetrius' reaction would be. The artist had been rather quiet so far, the previous question had been his longest sentence. Jake preferred listening rather than being the one mainly doing the talking, but he could do so if it was required, as it clearly was right now.

He blinked and shifted forward slightly. "Which ones?" He asked suddenly curious of this new development. He thought about the girl that smiled at him. 'But would I be okay with talking to girls? I can hardly talk to Jake' he thought. His hand rolled over his sketch book, sinking inside slightly in reaction to his absentmindedness

Jake hid his disappointment, he was hoping for more of a reaction, until he caught Demetrius' hand sinking into the sketch book, it looks like the sketch book was part of his powers after all. Jake smiled, "The one dark hair that reached her back looked like she one who started the topic about you. A few others were interested." the auburn haired teen answered, wondering when the boy would notice the accidental use of his abilities.

Demetrius felt his figers come into contact with something cool and hard, then a few strings, he pulled his hand from the paper qiuckly, making sure he didn't summon his violin as he looked at Jake. The dark haired one was the girl that smiled at him. He rubbed his hands together slowly. "Interesting, do you know any them?" He asked finding it hard not to wonder about the statics that he'd run into her again.

Jake hid the grin from his face, it was faint, very faint, but the small contact Demetrius' fingers had with the strings of the violin's picture had caused a very soft sound. Exactly like the instrument. Jake was now certain he knew just what Demetrius' power was. He shrugged his shoulders, "Can't say that I do, I've seen her walking around a few times. But, I'm sort of a loner myself. Out of my preference of peace and quiet. You could just go ahead and talk to her you know." Jake suggested.

Demetrius thought it over, putting his hand on his jaw. "I would but I can't talk to women...." he said afterwards. He said it with a slightly embarrassed grin. But it was true, he hated crowds, and talking to new people. But if it was a girl that reduced him to a stump in a boys body. He may have been attractive but he didn't know how getting a date worked.

It was getting harder to keep the teasing grin off his face, he wasn't quite sure how much abuse Demetrius went through, if it was just physical or if it was emotional as well. The grin might come off as mocking to him and he might turn away. The artist interested him so Jake didn't want that. "Can't help you there, I'm just as hopeless as you most likely are with getting dates. I don't turn into a stuttering wreck like some people might though." The half dragon spoke, shrugging his shoulders as he did so. "I'd just go for talking to her, finding out what she likes and if she'd like to be your friend. And try not to come off as a stalker either, that wouldn't be helpful."

He shrugged and leaned back against his tree. "I'll have to wait around, and maybe learn a bit about her first." He said. Then stretched slowly as scanned the court yard a bit. Looking for something, anything worth sketching. He stopped on the opposite wall, looking at a flower. It was a odd, dark red rose just growing outside in the grass. The Artist grinned, picking out a pencil from his hoodie, then started sketching it, erasing here and there. "So I take it, you haven't had a date either?"

Jake turned and looked at what Demetrius was grinning at, he noticed a dark red rose below the opposite wall, the half-dragon shrugged, Demetrius probably wanted to draw it. "I've been on a few, but it was the girls who asked me out, not the other way around. It'd be a little pathetic if I haven't been on one before. I mean, seventeen and not a single date?" The auburn haired teen answered as the dark haired artist sketched. Jake simply looked around and admired the scenery of the courtyard.

He chuckled. "I'm fifteen, and haven't dated anyone" he said as he finished up. Demetrius look up from it slowly, rubbing his eyelid. He looked at Jake, and put his pad aside. "Any tips, before I make a fool of myself?" He asked causally, now feel comfortable enough around the boy.

Jake tilted his head to the side, thinking of what to say. "I'd go with thinking about the questions you want to ask before you jump in. Try not to stutter, that would show that your a nervous wreck. Ignore any giggles if her friends find the scene amusing. And if you do come off as a nervous wreck, pray to god that the girl your trying to get finds that cute and takes pity on you." Jake answered, wondering how fun it would be to watch if he did indeed make a fool of himself.

The Artist got up slowly, and took a deep breathe. "If I strike out, ill do it with pride, if I get a date, you must pay me twenty bucks, deal?" He asked smirking. Demetrius figured it'd be least pressure to make a bit of a joke out of it. But still he was a beginner and he was going to stutter at least one time and he knew it.
