First Day

She moved down into the basement. It was so cold and windy outside. She didn't like it out there. She was new to all this. She took a deep breath. She looked around the basement. It was still cold, but at least it was less windy. She stepped further in. There weren't many people down here. She liked it. She preferred being alone like this. She sat on a bench and shut her eyes, relaxing. She liked it down here. She sort of wished nobody would ruin her peace. She held her books tight to her chest and shivered as a gust of cold air blew into the room, blowing her hair to the side.

Matthieu was cuddled in a corner, silently talking to Kumajiro when she noticed a girl looking quite comfortable on a quite uncomfortable looking bench. She quietly mention it to Kumajiro in french. She stared at the girl for quiet awhile, hoping she wouldn't be noticed. She attempted to shrink deeper into her corner but then squeak, quietly, when she noticed a spider slowly inching its way towards her. It moved closer until it was a mere 2 inches away. When Matthieu noticed it was still heading towards her she jumped up squeaking for it to go away as she pushed up against the wall clutching Kumajiro for her dear life.

She heard a bit of a squeak. She tensed up a bit. She hoped it was just a mouse. It escalated to a squeal. Her eyes opened up. There was another girl in here. She twiddled her fingers together. The girl was holding a stuffed animal. It was kinda cute. She chewed on her lip. "Hello." She hoped the girl would be friendly. She didn't want to be bugged...

After shuffling down the wall a bit further from the insect that assailed her, Matthieu noticed that the girl was talking to her and not some random person whom wasn't there at all. She stared at the girl, becoming a little flustered. Stammering, Matthieu quietly said hello in a whisper while gripping Kumajiro tightly. She silently wondered why this girl of all people noticed her. This school is so much more different then home! she thought to herself silently, her violet eyes wide as she stared at the girl's long blonde hair and blue eyes, Why blue eyes, why???

The girl seemed shy. She just nodded. She didn't know what to say. She was pretty shy, too. She looked at a wall for a couple seconds. And back to the girl. "So... Uh..." She chewed on her lip. Her eyes went to the animal. She didn't know what the think about it. It was cute. She shifted her body so the scythe on her back wasn't pressed against the bench. "What's your name...?" Good conversation starter. Yeah...

Matthieu flushed slightly realizing she was being rude staring at the girl, Mother would so not be happy!! She began stammering again, failing epically at trying to say her name. Pushing her face into her bear to hide her pink face, and to make sure we stopped staring at the girl, she managed to respond, "A-aah . . . U-um . . . M-my name is M-Matthieu . . ." she said quietly, but then added even quieter "b-but I-I don't mind if you c-call me M-M-Matvey . . "

The girl was clearly nervous. But... still friendly. She gave a little half smile and stared at the wall again. "Alright... Matvey." It was a pretty cute name. "I'm Kasi..." Two shy girls talking to each other. Such a difficult conversation. She rubbed her arms together. The girl was hiding her face. "That's a cute bear you have..." She tried to keep her eyes on the girl, but it was hard. She looked down at the ground.

"T-Thanks," Matthieu said quietly, peeking from behind her bear for a second then returned to hide, "H-His name is . . . u-um . . . K-Kuma . . . Kuma . . KumaKiro?? U-uh . . . Kumasomething??" Gasp!! I can't remember his name, she thought exasperatedly Oh no!! "I-I c-can't seem to remember his name" she whisper practically to herself, flushing from embarrassment. What kind of owner can't remember their own pets name?? Okay, well Kumawuma isn't necessarily a pet . . . more like a stuffy, but still!!

She just nodded. "It's okay." She had a little smile. She glanced over to the bear. The girl was so nervous. It was making her feel more comfortable. She shifted to one side of the bench. She patted the open spot on the bench beside her. "Would you like to come sit over here?" A friendly gesture, right? She hoped the girl didn't mind it.

"U-Uhm . . . S-Sure . . . " Matthieu said quietly, taking Kasi's request and sitting on the bench beside her. Twiddling with Kumajiro's ear she look everywhere except the girl beside her, she really couldn't think of anything to talk about, nor did she even want to talk. Out of habit she began nomming on Kuma's ear totally unaware of it.

The girl came and sat next to her. She made sure they didn't touch. She didn't like physical contact. The girl was chewing the bear's ear. It made her smile. She stared at the wall before she shut her eyes. "So.. uh..." She had no idea. The girl wasn't saying anything either. She opened her eyes and glanced over at the girl. "So, what grade are you?" She looked away again and held her hands together.

"Oh, uhm," Matthieu said, "Excusez-moi, a-ah, ummm, pardon me," She said accidentally reverting to her second language, "A-ah, I-I'm a freshman . . ." She turned to look at Kasi for a moment then quickly looked away, wanting to keep her manners by making eye contact with the person she was talking to, but not to seem queer that she was looking at someone.

The girl spoke in another language. She felt a little bad that she couldn't tell at all what it was. The girl was a year younger than her. She nodded. She stroked her hair a bit. She shut her eyes for a few seconds before opening them again. "I'm a Sophomore." This conversation was so slow. She took a deep breath and looked over at the girl. She kept her eyes focused on the girl. Just needed to keep eye contact for a few seconds. "Sorry I'm so nervous. I don't talk with a lot of people..."

A sophomore? Matthieu thought, Clearly someone like her must have someone better to talk to. After the girl paused then say that she didn't talk to people much changed Matthieu's mind completely. She began stroking her bear, "T-That's alright, you see, when I was back at home no one saw me, in fact I could go anywhere I wanted without them realizing. I didn't have any friend or anything. I was seemingly nothing more than a ghost in the background." She said, telling some person she barely knew something she has kept in her mind to herself for as long as she could remember.

She frowned a bit. The poor girl. She thought about putting a hand on the girl's hand. No... she didn't know what kind of reaction the girl would have... She should just do it. She slowly reached over a hand and placed it over the girl's. "It's okay. I'll be your friend." She smiled a bit to the girl. Hell, she hardly knew this girl. She was probably just doing this to make the girl feel better. Maybe she should be friends with the girl, though. She didn't know...

Matthieu twitched at the sudden contact from the other girl, but calmed quickly with her words. "T-Thanks," she said quietly, "A-Although once you figure out w-what I am I-I doubt you'd want to b-be f-friends with me . . ." She sighed downheartedly and looked at the top of Kumajiro's head.

She didn't drop her smile. "I'm sure it can't be that bad, dear." This girl was still nervous. She wanted the girl to feel better. She wondered if showing this girl her power would make the girl more comfortable. Then again, maybe that wasn't what the girl was referring to. Maybe it was something different. Like maybe the girl was a serial killer, or something like that. She would have to wait for a response...

"It is that bad . . ." Matthieu sighed, Bad enough that I couldn't face my family again, even if we hadn't had that fight she thought, clenching her fists tightly remembering that useless fight over her brother and his lazy traits. She nuzzled Kumajiro for comfort, enjoying his silk-like fur and maple-syrupy smell.

She leaned closer to the girl, trying to be of some sort of comfort. It must be something upsetting. The girl seemed sad. She chewed her lip and looked around. It was just them. She lifted her hand off the girl's. The skin on her hand turned black. Her five fingers changed into four long, pointed claws. She didn't look at her hand. She didn't like it. "See... I'm different, too." She didn't like it, but she wanted the girl to know that she was similar. She really hoped it helped.

"M-Map----" Matthieu stopped herself from cursing, afraid she would upset the girl, "I-I m-mean . . . W-What??" She stared at the hand, amazed and yet slightly afraid. I wonder what caused her to come here, or why she's even like that??? Or does she even have a family?!! She thought staring, hoping Kasi would elaborate.

Her hand changed back to a normal human hand. She set it back on the girl's hand. "Uhh... I can turn into... that..." The girl seemed so surprised. She really hoped the girl didn't hate her now. She didn't want to lose a potential friend for something like that. She wasn't confident enough to lose a friend like this. She'd get pretty sad...

"What is that??" Matt said completely awed by someone who was so much more different, I have it easy seeing how I can blend right into a crowd . . . And even disappear. The poor girl! ". . . I-is it why you d-don't talk with any o--othe...?" She talked carefully, worried she would ruin this by insulting her.

She shrugged. "I'm not sure. It's a scary, ugly form... But, no... I don't talk to many people because I'm just not very trusting..." She bit hard on her lip and looked to the side. That wasn't a very polite thing to say, but it made sense. She was disgusting. It was filthy and ugly. She closed her eyes. And it was her. Her heart was beating. She didn't want to cry. She tried to stay calm.

"A-Ah! Je suis desole, mais," realizing she was speaking French again Matt converted back to English, "I think it's rather cool! Much better than having to drink full course meals of blood four times a day" She stuck out her tongue, "And, you have your reasons to no trust people. Everyone does, except my brother. Ugh! cet imbicile!!" She giggled slightly, hoping to relieve the conversation of what intensity it had by speaking with more confidence.

The girl started to speak with stuttering. She smiled a bit. The girl drank blood? She guessed that's what the girl mean. She opened her eyes and smiled. The girl giggled. She giggled back. "Thank you." The girl mentioned a brother, but seemed to want to cover it up. She just ignored it. She smiled wide. She wondered if she should ask about the blood. Yeah... she wasn't sure where to go from this. "So, what did you mean with drinking blood?"
