Taunts and Ploys, Tricks and Dares

Post by Guest on Mon May 07, 2012 5:02 pm

The wind echoed through hollow places, gusting leaves and ripping gales, haunting even the afterlife. Crypts and tombs: Dark and winding, wailing in disturbance. Dust coating every nook and cranny, every step, like snow. Webs of spiders spiraling in every passage unknowingly destroyed by whatever passes it. Bats and other creatures of the dark squeaking and scurry which way and that. Heavy, hollow breathing quietly disturbed the complete silence, except for the sound of fast paced blood boiling with excitement. In another hour the sun will rise and with it, a vile blood-sucking creature returning from its late night snack. Alfred could hear his blood loudly in his ears, being the only sound around aside from his breath, as he hid in a large, dark crack in the ancient rock wall. Bugs undiscovered crawling over his shoulders and feet, under his clothes and on his head. But he could not whimper, or move from the unsightly place he hid. He got this great feeling that a vampire would be here, he knew it, but then again, he wasn’t too good at telling whether or not he found the resting place of a vampire or not. But if it was, and if it were the vampire that escaped the night they found the blood of his sister, he would kill that vampire no matter what.
The silence dragged on, Al’s legs growing stiff and tingly from sitting there for hours on end. His eyes dragged themselves closed repeatedly, Just wait till sunrise, he told himself, Just wait till sunrise, it will show up, it will . . . What Al didn’t know was that vampires could gladly walk about in daylight with sunscreen. He groaned as loudly as he dared when he stretched out his arms and legs as much as he could in the cramped space. He swore loudly as a bug bit his arm, ’Okay, that’s it!! This hero is going to bed!!” He growled, crawling out of the space and dusting off any bugs that wanted to hitch a ride back to his place. He made his way quietly out of the tomb, scared that if there were a vampire in here it would hear him and attack without him realizing it.
Alfred shuffled up the stone stairs and opened the gate that led to the bright outside world. He cursed, covering his eyes from the already bright sun waiting for him to come out. What time is it? he though groggily, blinking away the dots in his eyes. He sat on a dark looking bench near the tomb, and stared out at the tombstones all around him, each one engraved with one person’s or another’s loved one. He sighed, taking off his glasses and wiping away the dust. He leaned back and rested his eyes for the moment, So much for vampire hunting.

The night was dreadfully cold, it wasn't the ordinary cold. There wasn't a single person outside at this point, it felt like there was only one person left on the whole world.. By that, Mark felt like he was the only person left, yet that wasn't always the case.. He walked cautiously through the graveyard catching a glimps of every writing on every tomb stone. Ah, his vision that guides him so well tonight won't betray him, there wasn't a single cloud in the sky which made him feel at ease, this will be the one night that he could use his eye sight. Which he at this point, didn't like..
Gravestones, all different names, different dates, then he started to think about how it isn't fair, some of the people's names writen on these gravestones didn't live more than thirty years, some less.. He was trained to kill people, yet seeing this broke him completely. Every life he took had potential, a future cut short, Mark could remember his every victim, remembering of all he did.. At that point, there was something moving behind him, moving from a gravestone to a gravestone. Mark rotated his body to that direction but was unable to locate what it was. "Strange.. I can't seem to follow it's movements.." He though as he moved his look rapidly between the gravestones, trying to see what most people couldn't, but it was no use, his eye sight wasn't that strong. Now, Mark was cautious, deciding to slowly start to move, step by step, down the path. At this point, Mark wasn't sure what it was or who it was, but he hasn't encountered anything similar to it. As it moved, it broke a gravestone a few meters to Mark's right, making him look at that direction. As soon as the piece of gravestone hit the ground Mark turned around and started to run down the path. He wanted to draw the beast out of the darkness, to see it's true face, if it had a face or anything.
Going through the graveyard the sun started to raise, Mark was running in a very fast pace, as the beast that followed him was just playing with him. As soon as the sun raised, the beast stopped following Mark, it all went silent as Mark's speed reduced slowly. That was a strange experience, wasn't it? With no time to think, Mark turned his look slightly to the left seeing a guy sitting on a bench, wiping the dust from his glasses. "Okay.." Mark then decided to slowly approach the guy that was sitting on the bench, Mark was still a few meters away from him, and was slowly reducing the distance.

I should get moving, Al thought but continued to sit there. He sighed, trying to move his limbs heavy with sleep but could only move is fingers from fatigue. Next time . . . get more info on the vamp . . . he thought, mind barely clear. His head fell to the side as sleep took over him, his snores coming in loud heaves. The light of the morning didn’t bother his intense sleep; neither did the distant sounds of waking birds. He appeared to be the kind of man that could sleep anywhere and at any time, including graveyards during the morning light.
Alfred continued to sleep, unaware of another presence near him. He grumbled in his sleep, ”Blariekj . . . vampires . . . egkjnoenmekf . . .’” A snore, caught in his throat, turned into a snort that scared him awake. Looking at the row of tombstones in front of him with sleep glazed eyes, trying to comprehend what happened and where he was. ”Ahgrlrlh . . . Did I fall I asleep??” he mumbled, ”In a graveyard? . . . Mattie’s gunna . . . euognbe” He fell over to his side in his attempt to get off the bench. He threw his arms off the bench and leaned forward, making him roll off the bench and onto the ground. Getting up on his hands and knees he pushed up, staggering to a stand. He wavered, regaining his balance. ” . . . oh yeah Mattie isn’t . . . Wha - -“ He scratched at an irritated spot on his side and noticed a figure of another person not that far, ”Hey, who are you?” He called out, pulling off his brown bomber's jacket and shaking out a long ugly bug which scurried off in the morning sun. He stuck out his tongue at it and pulled on his jacket once again.

It was really quiet at this time of day Mark really did enjoy it, then the sunlight gave a strange feeling, the person that was following Mark was gone and the strange feeling was gone. Some birds in the area started to sing, as it felt really strange. At a point Mark asked himself why he even went through the graveyard.. Was it faster? He lost track of time at this point as the sunlight really did dazzle him. Even if he had trouble looking, he continued to walk at the person that was sitting on the bench...
Now, while Mark was approaching the person, using his enchanced hearing, he could hear that the man was sleeping. Saying things while you sleep is really a common thing to do, but the strange part is that he mentioned vampires... "Great.. By what I can see I have a possible 'Vampire Hunter'.. Hope this one is smart and doesn't get hurt.." He though to himself while he approached a few meters away, at that point Mark stopped as the man fell onto the ground. "Mhm.. There goes that theory.." Jokes aside, the man asked Mark who he was. "You took the words right out of my mouth.. What are you doing sleeping in a graveyard at night?" Mark said as he moved his hands in his pockets, his eyes focused at the man on the ground, the man could clearly notice that Mark's left eye was black as his right one was white.

Alfred yawned loudly, hand lazily covering his mouth, "Dude, I haven't a clue what you're talking about," He said sleepily, ready for hibernation, if he'd get the chance to make it to his bed without getting ran over by a car or some kids . . . or something . . . Yeaah . . . He yawned again. "iprgknws . . . I was looking for the person who . . . " He yawned, interrupting his own speech, "Who killed my sister . . . " He stretched out his arms, trying to wake up, " . . . but it isn't here . . . I'm going to . . . " His yawn caught in a snort as his head rolled over to the side, his eye shut tight and he began to snore slowly falling backwards.

Mark sighed noticing that the man was clearly falling asleep. Most of the words he said Mark could recognize.. He said that he was looking for a person... Who killed his sister? He then moved his look around... Then he said "IT" isn't here, reffering to a creature of some sort? Great.. Mark felt a relief, at first he though that he killed his sister. "When did she get killed?" Mark asked curiously and with compassion, he felt bad hearing that.. How much people has Mark killed that were important to someone? He sighed again as fractions of memories started to show in front of his eyes. After a moment Mark focused, seeing that the man was almost going to fall asleep on the ground, he was wondering if he even heard his question.

Alfred's arms flailed out around him as he woke by surprise from falling down, "Owwwwww . . . " He whine, rubbing his butt from his heavy fall. He yawned loudly, stretching out his arms wide. After smacking his lips a little bit he realized another person near him, again. Rubbing the sleep out of his eyes Al said, "What? Who? Did you say something?" He yawned again, "What time is it??? I could really use a couple cheeseburgers and a large coke . . . I'm tired" His eyes drooped heavily as he stretched and yawned again.

It was a bit funny of how the man was reacting, he would fall asleep every five seconds, it made Mark smile slightly. He continued to study the man, one thing was sure, he wasn't an ordinary human. No man would sleep in a graveyard.. Especially on a night like this. "Nothing..." He replied to his first question, while he looked at the sunlight coming from the horizon. "Probably 5am or 6am... Not sure.." He answered to his second question, hearing that he was tired, which ment that he was awake the whole night.. "Well.. Now I'm interested.." He though as he continued to observe the man, curious to what his ability was..

"Aw man," Alfred exclaimed, staring at the mysterious man, "On an ordinary day I would still be sleeping" He groaned, stretching out his limbs. He sighed disappointed, No signs of my sister's killer . . . Not even a normal vamp . . . Looking at the mysterious man, Al wondered why someone like him would be around here. "So . . . Who are you, and why are you even here?" He said, flashing his blue eyes over the rims of his glasses to see if the person was just another bloodsucker in disguise. Sadly, and thankfully, he wasn't.

Mark wasn't used to sleeping all day long, a hour or two would be enough for him, constant head aches from his ability would cause him to loose it. Most of the time he can be spotted in the ruins at night, focusing his pain and anger to destroy what remains of the area. "Mark... Mark Echo.. What's yours?" He asked, moving his look to the nearest tombstone, this place felt cold, everything about it was just wrong.. So many people burried, it made Mark question his past... Was it right to do those things, maybe his victims were here.. He did not know...

Al smirked, just waiting for the moment to introduce himself. He struck a heroic pose; feet apart, left hand on waist, and right hand in a thumbs up pointing towards him. With his new found energy he laughed his triumphant and heroic laugh, "Ahahahahahaaa! You, my lucky man," he began, "is about the meet the most daring, the most cunning, and the most bravest hero of all!! Alfred Mother-Beeping F Jones, is my name! Don't forget it!!" He smirked handsomely, swiping his nose with the thumb that was once pointing towards him, then placed it on his waist, likewise to the other.

Mark chuckled slightly, Alfred was a fun fellow.. He then looked back at Alfred with his black and white eyes, his words were a bit funny. His look then turned a bit serious, having a serious look on his face, it wasn't common for him to be serious. "Do you know what being a hero means?" He asked with a cold tone, there was a shadow over his eyes as he moved his look down slightly. Hearing Alfred say those words did disturb him a bit.. Did he fight in the war? Saved someones life? He needed to know Alfred's answer..

Sensing the seriousness of the question Alfred returned to his usual posture. "A hero is a person that protects someone who is important to them," he said staring toward's Mark's odd coloured eyes, "sometimes it doesn't even have to be someone you know, all that matters is that you are protecting someone is loved or has loved ones themselves." He answered powerfully. Although he isn't concentrating on protecting others at this moment, right now he wanted to kill all vampires in existence. Revenge is tainting, he thought, but right now it's all I can think about

Mark closed his eyes listening to his answers, but he could feel that the man wasn't telling him everything. Used to interogate ability users, Mark sharpened his mind learning how to read body language and the vibrations of someones voice chords. It was like he was telling a story, he probably read this from a book or something. "And have you taken a life yet, to protect the people you love?" One serious question at a time, Mark was eager to learn more info about Alfred. And about the killer that took the life of his sister, his methods were a bit.. Unpleasant but they did sometimes get the job done, but when it comes to taking lives, Mark knew all about that..

"If you call it a life," Al grunted, squinting at Mark, wondering where he was getting at, "I kill creatures that threaten my family, other people's families . . . " He said, moving his gaze to the rows of tombstones. I wonder how many were killed by these creatures, he thought, eyes making out various names and years. The younger ones almost seemed perfect to be victims, but if Al were to look through the archives of deaths he'd probably find out that they died of some stupid drunk drivers or of natural causes.

Mark sighed, he knew what he meant by "monsters". His little sleep discovered more that he would tell.. This guys is a suicide case.. If he does this alone, who knows what can happen to him.. Mark though as he moved his look at the sky. "You know that if you get a little bit more stubborn you might see your final days a bit more sooner?" Mark wanted to stop Alfred, it would be the first good thing he has done in a long time... Knowing that who ever messes with the Vamps gets a fast death..

"I don't care, so long as I get the one I'm targeting I'll be fine" Al said, confidently. Reaching the end of my days sooner than normal would be fine so long as I either get my revenge on Mattie's death or I get to see Mattie herself, he thought, cringing at the thought of being without his invisible twin for the rest of his life without revenge.

Mark could see his confidence, making him smile slightly as he moved his head slightly towards the ground, he closed his eyes. "Well.. Why not?" He though as he opened his eyes and moved his look towards Alfred. "Why don't we make a deal?" Mark said willing to cooperate. "I can help you with dealing with your "target" as long as you promise me that you will stop hunting the rest of them.." He said as he moved his look up at the sky. "No harm in helping him.."

Al hummed a bit, thinking, "The thing is," he said slowly, "I'm not sure which one did it. All I know is that one of them did." He looked towards the light, now questioning his own tactics to finding his sister's killer.

Mark then crossed his arms, this was interesting.. Alfred didn't even know which one killed his sister, which made things worse, the killer could be half way across the world and Alfred is just risking his life. He then closed his eyes, resting them a bit. "And how's the search going?" He asked, already knowing the answer to the question, Mark just wanted to hear Alfread's answer.

"Does it matter?" Alfred shrugged, turning to face Mark, "I am saving other people from suffering by killing unwanted monsters." He yawned, sleep beginning to smack him right in the face once again. He moved back to the bench and sat down, stretching and trying his best to not pass out.

Mark sighed, what could he do? All of the vampire hunters he knew were a bit stubborn, it can't be helped. He was still worried, a few minutes ago Mark encountered something, he didn't know who or what it was. For now he could only accompany Alfred until he leaves the graveyard, Al didn't look like a fighting type.. "What would you do if you saw someone you knew become a monster? Would you kill that person as well?" He said, wanting to keep Alfred awake a bit, even tho he knew sooner or later he would fall asleep.

"I don't know . . ." Al yawned, "I'm killing off these monsters so that that never happens." He looked over at the rest of the space on the bench. Boy did it ever look comfortable. He looked back at Mark, then stood up and walked around, wanting to stay awake as long as possible.

Mark sighed looking at Al trying to stay awake, it was a bit funny but he kept that to himself. "Why don't you go home and sleep?" He asked, it was obvious that Al wanted to sleep. Mark crossed his arms looking at Al that was walking around trying to stay awake. Sleep is necessary for a normal human, as for Mark, he didn't sleep in two weeks, even for those two weeks Mark didn't show any need for sleeping, being a clone does change a lot about you...

"I was planning on it . . . " Al said, "But I'm still looking for something." He hadn't given up on the possibility of a vampire here. He yawned, barely keeping his eyes open, I just need to do something to keep awake He kneeled before some random tombstone and stared at the flowers placed before it, sighing.
