Playing in the Yard Empty Playing in the Yard

Post by Azamuki 2.0 Sun Aug 12, 2012 10:07 pm

A young man, with strikingly large, round ears appeared to be relaxing on a great oak tree in the courtyard. His long tail coiled flexibly around one of the branches, and he hung upside down with this dismal look on his face. His name was Saruko, Genma, but he was known for being a little more hyperactive than he currently was being. "...Man I'm bored. That stupid accident a few blocks away has everyone so excited. I can create an accident if that's what grabs everyone's attention." Still, he wanted to do something a little more inventive... It was a good idea though. He pulled two sets of juggling balls out of each pocket. There were three in each. He began juggling the six balls upside down as he thought of something else to do. A couple of kids noticed him, and approached his position twenty-four feet below him; however, he wasn't exactly paying attention right now.

She decided to be at school today. She still wasn't attending classes. She probably should, but things were difficult. She couldn't just ask somebody to teach her to read. It would be embarrassing. She guessed she should just wait until it figures itself out. And until then, she would just show up at school so she was at least here. She was taking a walk through the campus. It looked like it was a break period. There were some students out and about. Something caught her eyes. There was a boy in a tree. He was upside-down and was tossing some balls into the air and catching them. She was a little intrigued. There was a small crowd of students observing him. She didn't want to get close to the others. She leaned against a wall and watched him. It was amusing. Her blue eyes examined all she could see. He had a strange amount of hair on his head. And that seemed to be a tail. She was starting to doubt that this was a student. Possibly a pet?

More and more schoolchildren began approaching Genma. This was starting to get interesting. He was inspired; they seemed to enjoy his juggling. “Wow, that’s cool!” One of the boys said. Genma grinned, his canines revealed themselves. “If you think that was cool, watch this!” Abruptly, he began flinging the six balls in the direction of the children below, and they bounced off of their foreheads and he threw them back at them. He did this three times. The same boy looked up at Genma. “Why you! Get down here!” Now he was annoyed. “Aw, you’re no fun.” Genma remarked, chuckling happily. The boy blinked, and Genma was behind him. Somehow he managed to leap from such a height without hurting himself. Genma poked the boy’s shoulder. The kid turned around, and swung his fist. Genma slipped in between his legs, and the boy missed him by a long shot. “You’re a little too slow, I think.” He said with a smirk. His jade eyes gleamed in the sun, along with his copper fur. “…W-Well you talk too much!” The kid swung at him twice more, he blocked him and parried, pushing him back ever so slightly. Before the kid could counter, Genma flicked his nose. “Ow! That hurt!” Genma hopped back, climbing effortlessly up the oak tree, sitting down comfortably on the very same branch. He crooked his head enquiringly; some of the kids were leaving. He didn’t understand. “…What did I do wrong?” He asked himself silently.

The show was getting a little more interesting. Apparently the figure in the tree was a student. It spoke too eloquently to be just a pet. He started to get in a bit of a fight with another student. He was quite dexterous, jumping this way and that. She was amused. She stood up straight. He was back in the tree. It seemed a good amount of students were leaving the crowd. She might be able to make it in there and get a better view. Her shining golden hair blew a bit with a breeze. She was still too shy to approach. Just too many people. She readjusted the weapon on her back and started to play her fingers together, nervously. Classes must be starting soon, no? Maybe there would be less people.

At this point everybody who was within Genma’s locality walked away. He exhaled. He didn’t realize what he did wrong. He just wanted to give them a show; the boy liked it at first. “…This always happens. Humans are so perplexing.” He muttered to himself. There was still a chance, it seemed, however. A young schoolgirl who looked about his age, maybe a little younger wasn’t too far off, and he could feel her eyes on him. He really sought to meet this girl for some reason; she lingered while everyone else left. He liked that. “Hello!” He shouted. He didn’t quite know if she’d know he was directing that toward her. Nevertheless, he swayed his arms.

Everyone was gone. Just her and the strange boy. Well, she guessed that was what she was looking for. He shouted a greeting and waves his arms to her. She was a bit reluctant, but decided to go to him. She took a couple slow steps, but built up to a normal walking pace. She stood below the tree the boy sat in. "Hello." Her voice was a little soft, but not quiet. Not loud, but not a mumble. She had a faint smile on her lips as her big blue eyes kept focused on the boy. She didn't know what else to say. He initiated the conversation. She guessed he would continue it.

Even though he was having so much fun with the schoolchildren, the girl still came to him. Genma was grateful. She approached him sluggishly at first, and then progressively became more relaxed, Genma could tell; he’d been inspecting her the entire time. He dove from branch to branch with little to no effort. It all came naturally. He made his way down speedily. “Hi! I’m Genma!” He presented himself with a broad grin on his face. “I like your fur.” He added; she had so much of it; some of it was in her face. He pinched a strand of hair in her face interestedly. “It’s so soft.” He stated.

Huh. This boy was a little odd... maybe a little more than odd. He introduced himself as Genma. He complimented her... fur? Would it be fur? She'd always heard it was hair. Maybe it could be fur, too. He was touching her hair, playing with it a bit. "Thank you..." She should've introduced herself. "Uh, I'm Kasi." She wasn't a very smooth talker. She could speak the language pretty well, though. She would get better. She didn't know what to do. Should she touch his hair- er, fur. She didn't know. She sucked at conversation. He was nice. Maybe he wouldn't mind how quiet she was.

The girl who introduced herself as Kasi seemed a little uncooperative at first, as if she never spoke with another living soul in her whole life. Perhaps there was some truth in that. It didn’t matter to Genma, she was speaking now. Genma rested his forehead against hers, and looked into her eyes. “They’re the color of the Sea of Japan. Have you ever been there before? I love it. I love to swim, what about you?” He asked. He was a little more chatty and enthusiastic than usual. Before giving her a chance to talk, he began sniffing her. “Are you Human? You don’t smell Human… And Humans chat a lot. -a little too much, if you ask me- You’re a nymph, aren’t you?” She appeared Human, but something about her was off. In reality, Genma wasn’t familiar with how diverse Human-beings were, but he’d certainly not admit it.

The boy touched his forehead to hers. She didn't really feel comfortable with this. He was much too close to her. She didn't like contact. Her heart started to beat faster. He continued with conversation. He said that her eyes looked like the sea. That was actually a very nice compliment. She nodded a bit when he asked if she liked swimming. She didn't do it very often, but she knew pretty well how to do it. She really enjoyed it. He moved to a new line of questioning rather quickly. Was she human? Her heart sank. This was a subject she didn't like to touch. He suggested she was a nymph. She didn't know what that was. "I... I don't think I am..." She bit her lip, her gazing drifting away from the boy's. "I don't like this topic..." Her voice was getting quiet and trailing off. She didn't want to think about how not-a-human she was. It made her sad.

After Genma had questioned whether or not Kasi was a Human, she became markedly uncomfortable, and even a little panicky. Genma had pried a little too much. He stepped back a little. “Why don’t we play a game? Hmm?” He asked her with a smile, in an effort to change the subject. “I brought a few balls with me, we could always play catch together.” He was going to do it anyways. “Catch!” He tossed one of his juggling balls at Kasi, after having stepped back a few feet.

The boy seemed smart enough to stop asking about it. He switched the subject again. She relaxed a bit. He wanted to play a game with her. She hadn't really played a game. Ever. He moved back a bit and tossed a ball to her. Her hand shot out instinctively and caught it. She'd never done this before. She looked at the ball in her hand. She hadn't played this game. She looked up to the boy. She was wondering what to do. Hopefully he would catch on and instruct her. This was difficult.

Genma was pleased he could change the topic so efficiently. He was never fond of dealing with other people, particularly Humans. They were the most problematic to comprehend and get along with in the entire animal kingdom, and Genma would know, because he met just about all there is to meet in the wildernesses of Japan. He paused for a bit, and started getting bored. Where was the ball? He eyed Kasi, and she was just holding the ball, when she should’ve been tossing it. “Oh, I understand.” He appeared next to her in a matter of seconds using his astounding acrobatics. “You’ve been holding the ball for too long. You’re supposed to throw it back at me. You need to reel your arm back a bit, and then release the ball with improved velocity in my direction; a flinging motion, where your whole arm functions as the sling.” He wasn’t aware if she knew the dynamics of a throw or not… though it wouldn’t make sense if she didn’t, seeing as how she carries a weapon on her.

That... that made a bit more sense. They would be tossing it back and forth. Okay. She could do that. She threw it to him. She sort of wondered why he had to explain the whole thing. It wasn't too complicated, was it? Maybe it was, for some. She wouldn't judge others. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to speak. Maybe she was. Maybe he wanted to talk to her whilst they played. She didn't know. "So... what year are you?" Yeah. Nailed it. Just asked a question, couldn't have done better. She really hoped that was enough...

The two began chucking the juggling ball back and forth. Kasi had caught on fast, then again… Catch wasn’t exactly a difficult game to master. While throwing back the ball to Kasi, he spoke. “Year? Year is just a numeral and order. I’m 1st year; a freshman.” He grinned. “…But I could take on the elders of this University. They aren’t that tough; and they’re not that clever either; they can be tricked very easily.” His confidence was presenting itself. Perhaps it was too much? Genma never really cared to consider it… It’s who he was, and he wouldn’t change himself for anyone in this realm or beyond. He had caught the ball once more. “I’m only here to refine my abilities, and develop into a God among gods. I just need to learn how to do it first. Elders of the University don't think it's possible, but, I'll prove them wrong. It just shows how foolish they are.” He flung it back at her. “So, what year are you, Kasi?”

They tossed it back and forth. It was amusing, but not really exceptional. This boy was crazy. He wanted to become a god? Ridiculous. Well... she didn't really want to tell him how crazy it was. What if he really was god-like and he was just messing with her right here, tossing a ball with her. He asked what year she was. She was about to give him a proper answer, but something strange came through her head. "I don't actually know." She was a bit nervous. "I haven't attended a single class since I arrived here, have I?" She was speaking a bit to herself, a bit to him. She was surprised.

Genma didn’t get the answer he wanted. Kasi didn’t even know what year she was, it was a little abnormal. She didn’t know how to play catch and she didn’t know what year she was. Genma speculated whether she ever even attended her lessons. What was the point of going to Darks if you weren’t going to learn anything? He couldn’t comprehend it. “…You really don’t know?” He pitched the ball back at her. “Why are you here?” He chuckled. “You’re so trivial, Kasi. Just like the Humans.” -Coming from the simian that was unquestionably going to become a God one day- “I’m slightly bored of this game.” He sighed, back-flipping onto the ground with his legs crossed; he had been unknowingly wagging his tail left and right. He began to contemplate amongst himself. ”What to do now?” He muttered to himself.

The boy said a couple condescending things to her. He asked her a question, but before she could answer he started to speak again. He interrupted her a lot. She was here because she had no other place to go. And because... because she didn't want to hurt anybody. He mentioned that she was like humans. She took that as a compliment. He said he was bored with the game. She tossed the ball back to him one more time. She looked up into his eyes. "I wish a was a human." She spoke with confidence. She didn't do that often. He didn't understand. How could he? He was practically a human as it was. Just a couple slight modifications.

Genma caught the ball without really paying attention to it, having been thrown in his direction. Though, it reminded him that someone else was still around. He still wasn’t alone. He looked up at Kasi and grinned, resting his hands against the back of his head. She looked right into his eyes, and conveyed how she wished she were Human. “I don’t. I’m proud of what I am, and I know I’m not exactly ordinary to their standards of a Human. You’re great the way you are!” He didn’t really know the girl, but he could tell just by observing her that she wasn’t one to change very easily like a lot of his other classmates. “You should be honored. Humans are scrawny and they don’t even know how to have fun. Why do you consider we’re here to begin with? The elders don’t want us hurting other Humans.” It was just his thought on the matter. Your typical man or woman was so brittle.

The boy said she was great the way she was. That upset her a bit. She wasn't. She was awful the way she was. She took a couple steps towards him. With each step something changed. Her eyes turned red, a third one sprouting from her forehead. Her hands turned to claws long as knives. Her teeth sharpened to daggers. Her skin and her hair turned pitch black. Her legs turned into a single, skirting, unidentifiable form. "Are we great the way we are? Despite what our 'elders' wish, I hurt them anyway. I don't want to, but they get hurt in the end!" She was upset. This didn't happen often. She didn't like changing into this, but she got angry.

Genma’s Jade eyes widened once she exposed her natural form. Instinctively, he threw down his sewing needle behind him, and it shifted into its customary form, which was a six-foot red and gold Bo staff with elaborate cloud-like designs flowing ornately all over it. He leaped backward, and landed immaculately onto the tip of the staff, now looking down at the girl who had just shared her natural form with him. “I-I’ve never seen anything like that in Japan!” He may have spoken bluntly, and though he didn’t scare easily, he was admittedly alarmed upon seeing her natural form; this was far from what he predicted. She was so murky, no longer a golden blonde. “Y-Your fur!” He added anxiously. It was as obscure as a Gorilla’s. It was rough trying to befriend a gorilla. He tried it a couple of times at the Zoo. “…And your claws!” It reminded him of a jungle predator’s just three times its length. Kasi was noticeably a natural-born predator. She had the fangs and claws. He pondered if she only ate meat? What if she ate Humans? A couple of thoughts were running through his mind all at once. It would take him a couple of minutes to accept her alteration in form. After seeing this, he’d undoubtedly never be surprised to see such a being again in his life.

The boy sounded astounded. He was yelling a bit. She forgot that these eyes didn't work in such bright light. Everything was blurry. As far as she could tell, the boy was hovering in the air. The boy mentioned her fur. Probably the fact that her hair changed. It was no longer blond and wavy, now it was just a black mess on her head. And her claws. Yeah... they were a little crazy. Compared to the animals here, her claws were a little over-the-top. She had trouble doing some things due to how long her claws were. "Do you see this? Do you think this is better than human?" She tried to focus on him. Despite having three eyes, it was really difficult to see. She would be crying if she was human. This body couldn't cry. It had trouble showing any emotion but anger. She hated it.

Sweat trickled along the sides of Genma’s face, trailing through his copper-colored fur. He was still having trouble rationalizing what she was exactly. Kasi had furiously asked whether he beheld what she was, and asked if it was ‘better’ than Human. Genma picked his ear before figuring out what to say. “Well… I’ll confess. It’s ugly-looking, that’s for sure.” He hesitated, hopping off of his staff, and approaching her cautiously. “But, I know you could probably cut a Human in half with those lethal claws of yours.” Or were they talons? He had no idea. Gradually, he poked at her skin. It didn’t feel right at all. It wasn’t as milky and smooth as her Human form. He noted her third eye. “A third eye?! You’re a God aren’t you!” He exclaimed. This might be his chance to test his mettle against a deity. He sneered. “…Well, are you?” He asked her unpromisingly. “…That scythe. You’re a Shinigami. Heh.” Now it was beginning to make more sense. “Are you here to stop me before I become a God myself?” He was anticipating a ‘Yes’, eager to prove himself.

The boy thought she was a god. A 'shinigami', maybe. She didn't think so. She shook her head. "How could I be a god? Do you see me? I'm terrible!" She was getting angrier. "I... don't know what I am..." She tightened a fist. Well... her hand. It couldn't really become a fist. Not with these claws. She hated everything she was. She took a couple deep breaths before her body switched back to normal. She looked away from the boy. He looked like he wanted to hurt her. Her hands were trembling. She was scared. He wanted to fight. She didn't want this. This boy seemed like fun before, but he just didn't understand her...

The fact that Genma thought she was a God, only made Kasi angrier. He could very easily sense some malicious instinct manifesting within her soul, but he didn’t fear it. He stood still, cheekily. He was ready for a brawl. Before he could charge at her, she had already degenerated back to her Human form. He didn’t quite comprehend it. He felt so much power when she was in her murky form… Why would she want to be Human? “I think the duel would be unfair in that form...” He scratched his head, walking unhurriedly back to the direction of his staff. He gripped it as if he was going to use it to combat her, but instead he abruptly turned it back into a sewing needle, which he ensued putting behind his ear. He turned around once more, facing Kasi. “You pretend to be Human, Shinigami… But, I know what you are. Maybe you don’t even remember where you come from; that you’re a God of Death. I’ll give it time, but one day… You and I will have the battle of our lives. And we can truly understand one another.” He looked down at the grass, and grinned. His canines were showing. He looked back up with newfound inspiration, pointing at her. “…One of these days, I will surpass you, Shinigami! You better believe it! Until then, however… We can be friends.” He could also study his adversary more meticulously. “So, whattya’ say?” He snickered. Genma was happier than ever right now.
